“There was a man standing there.
Terror greater than any she had ever known crept over her. Her bladder, which had in fact relieved only the worst of its discomfort, now voided itself in a painless gush of heat. Jessie hadn’t the slightest idea of that or anything else.

Her terror had blown her mind temporarily clean from wall to wall and ceiling to floor. No sound escaped her, not even the smallest squeak; she was as incapable of sound as she was of thought. The muscles of her neck, shoulders, and arms turned to something that felt like warm water and she slid down the headboard until she hung from the handcuffs from a kind of slack swoon.

She didn’t black out- didn’t even come close to it- but that mental emptiness and the total physical incapacity which accompanied it were worse than a blackout. When thought did attempt to return, it was at first blocked by a dark, featureless wall of fear.

A man. A man in the corner.”

-Stephen King, “Gerald’s Game”

Yeah, this excerpt sounds a lot like my house every now and again. One afternoon after a happy slumber filled with dreams mostly about sex, I woke up face down and kind of stayed in that horniness sort of imagining I was atop of somebody. This was all good, I mean my imagination and creativity keep me from going insane usually. A few seconds later it was like “whoa wait, YOU ain’t who I was thinkin’ about!” and I jumped the fuck up because I got this terrible feeling or awareness that this uninvited alien intruder was right under me looking up at me, smiling even, as if to say, “boo.” I mean, I almost saw it.

Another time, after just waking up (and no, it was not a dream) I “knew” somebody else was in the room, and looking at me. So I got up and extended my arm, keeping a distance, but I got this hunch that the ghost was mirroring me, keeping its right hand inches from my face and mine inches from his, mocking me. I turned the light on and saw nothing.

Noah, who frequents the establishment for bed and breakfast, was in his usual berth and claims there was something looking down on him, right above his face who would always manage to wake him up right as he was falling asleep. Noises kept coming from the dining room (not mice I don’t think, I haven’t seen a single one all winter oddly) like the dice on the table were being toyed with.

I dreamed about this house when I was 14 or so, years before I would ever have any inkling of an idea I’d be living there. The place was the same, almost exactly in some parts. The little iron stove in the living room, the skylight, the small back room, which was a photographically identical. And skulls. In the dream, all sorts of skulls and skeletons were all over ,likely for a dream, but when we moved in we found Halloween skulls and skeletons all over also, more than anything else seasonal. The small room had a huge blood stain on it that I could smell in the dream.

A bit of pre-cog never hurt anyone.

Right?

I was with this man and he instructed me to look at the wall and tell him what I saw. I said it was easy as it was a plain white wall with a pattern of small red disks displayed on it. To this he replied, “Look again.” No sooner did he say this when we were propulsed high hundreds of feet into the air as we realized the actual perspective of what we were looking at was a giant white wall a thousand feet high with many huge red spheres suspended in mid air in front of the wall in 3 dimensional patterns. To this I explained, “Wow, I can see now that what I was looking at is not as it seemed to me at first, I’m glad you cleared that up for me.”

“You think you know what you see?” he replied, “look again.” Just then a whole new perspective came about as all the forces came into view manipulating and affecting the red balls as I saw yellow arrows interactively protruding from the balls showing which way they are going, falling (gravity) or rising (zero-gravity, bounce, or some reaction), the balls not always staying in their formations. Some were reacting to forces unknown to me, just that I knew I was looking at a snapshot. If one second later the balls would probably fly, float, dissappear, appear, change colors, or explode into different directions except for the ones who had forces acting in all directions, keeping it static, and I was seeing this behind the scenes energy occuring. I couldn’t believe my eyes seeing this new point of view I could never have realized before. “You sure have showed me this time,” I exclaimed, “to open my eyes to many new aspects and see-scapes that are there if only I may see them.”

“Ah, but look yet again….”

Then I woke

Nothing interests me more than the idea of synchronicity. This concept, going further than mere coincidence happens when two extremely similar events occur at different times and circumstances. It ties in with deju vu, clairvoyance, and psychic phenomena. When these syncronicities occur at a high rate you can be sure to classify them in the paranormal.

What exactly cause this is unknown, but the idea can’t be ignored. On the contrary, when it happens to you it can dominate your thoughts perhaps causes more and more coincidences.

Examples

  • One such example is the invention of the calculus by two different men in two different parts of the world at the same time.
  • The playing of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon to the Wizard of Oz
  • Thinking of the number 23 and then seeing it everywhere.
  • While I was looking at a map and wondering how much property costs in a certain town, a woman called and asked how much property costs in that town (this was at a pizza shop)
  • Twins separated at birth reunited to find out they had married women of the same name, gave birth to boys of the same name in the same month and year, and had the same professions.
  • Thinking of a person and seeing their name everywhere.
  • Picking up the phone to call someone the exact instant they called you.

These are just a few examples of synchronicity, and I could go on and on about the subject. Perhaps another time I’ll update the list.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the mindscape. The mindscape contains the Absolute, which consists of the Total Library, infinity, omega, Alef-1; in other words “absolutely” everything. It is a theoretical area in space-time or hyperspace which houses everything, every possible thought ever conceivable: past, present, future. Every possibility, potentiality, chance, fate, and destiny is there. Infinity is bigger than our brains can ever begin to comprehend.
The Total Library is every book written about anything and everything. It is an infinitely large collection of all randomly generated books starting with the book that contains all A’s and going on to create readable intelligible books of every language about every possible subject. Even books about books. Take any book you own and you can write enough books about the things inside that book that if you stacked the bound volumes back to back they’d reach the other end of the solar system. Of course this is a useless library because if you wanted to find a book on the secrets of the universe you will find it, but a totally contradictory book will also be found, and others where minute details are added or subtracted, ad infinitum.
The interesting part of this mindscape is that it contained yesterday in detail my thoughts and actions of today, because theoretically there was a chance I would think the thoughts so they therefore had to be contained therein. Just as the year before Newton and Leibniz simultaneously invented calculus, the formulas where there in the mindscape. They were there before man invented the wheel. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony was there before man invented the wheel. The secrets of tomorrow are there in the mindscape as we speak. The inventions that will change our world are contained in the Absolute, they just have not been manifested by mankind. Its as if the universe is a very passive place just waiting for humans to interact with it. All the discoveries of science have been just as real and apparent long before we thought to ponder.
It boggles the mind when you begin to comprehend the mindscape before you even begin to consider the cosmos and other universes. Just think, simply because there was a chance that I’d choose Pepsi rather than Coke today, the Mindscape consisted of both paths. And paths beyond paths inconceivable. Shrodinger’s Cat is alive and dead at the same time.
Need it be so incredibly passive, though? Biologically speaking, our brains have evolved enough to think of the “self” and our place in the heavens, the ability to conjure abstract thought, to write, invent, etc. But are we all predestined to think of something that is in the mindscape, that my thoughts are not so much my own, but just popping out of some library of ideas? And when I have my pre-cognitive premonition dreams I’m seeing the future by accidentally tapping into this mindscape, this concrete Absolute that is very much alive and breathing in the here and now as it has been and always will be? Couldn’t it be said, then, that every possible future is there in the mindscape? Every possible past, and different presents as perceived by a google human points of view? Is there an infinty possible futures? Do I possess free will? Is there some filing cabinet that contains everything I am capable of, was capable of, ever will be capable of thinking, or doing? I’d hate to read it, I’d hate to bore myself.

When I dream and wake up with some unknown tune stuck in my head, I am sure that I’ve never consciously heard it before. This is not too unlikely, we constantly hear new songs everyday and we say to ourselves that we have never heard it before. I daresay that it is impossible for my to invent a song in my sleep. I have no aptitude for music whatsoever. I learned basic piano in high school but its forgotten now, and that was hard enough. I have no ear for melodies and harmonies or even musical dissonance believe it or not. So where did these songs come from? Several possiblities:

1. I have heard the song, I just didn’t remember it
reversal- I oftentime dream of songs and sometimes get them stuck in my head when
I wake, but I usually know the song, something I know I’ve heard before

2. In the aftermath of post-sleep consciousness I think it was a song I haven’t heard
before, but because my memory was hazy I was unsure
reversal- The song, especially the most recent time, was clearly stuck and playing
in my head when I woke, I very consciously remember trying to figure out what it
was.

3. I invented the song in my sleep.
reversal- not likely. I have no ear for music and am not musically inclined.
I highly doubt that I have some subconscious ability to create such a complicated
piece of music, nor would anybody who is not a musician.

4. I psychically picked the song out of someone else’s consciousness
reversal- less believable. Works well if you are in the frame of mind that psychic
abilities occur because we are all biologically or cosmically connected somehow.
This theory deals primarily in the present (even though the memory obviously
comes from the past).

5. I tapped into the mindscape where the song rested in some time (past, future)
reversal- least believable. Possible, nontheless. works well if you believe
psychic abilities as well as all other theories of chance, fate, and destiny invlove
the mindscape in some way.

I tend to believe the last one myself at the moment. Imagine what we could know if we only could tap into this field of knowledge known as the mindscape. Its possible that my pre-cog dreams (which were too damned detailed to be mere happenstance) happened for the same reason. A cosmic mistake perhaps.
It can be argued that out of the thousands and thousands of dreams I have had that two of these would come true. That out of any random situation conjured up, something will be real. Its like Nostradamus predicting a million general things, and a few actually happening. I don’t see it this way, in fact, for that many factors in the dream to come absolutley true, with no extra things happening, you would need to dream every night for hundreds and hundreds of years, if not thousands.

Maybe I’ve opened some door, just like when I had the lucid dreams, we’ll see where it takes me. Its a shame my waking life is so boring I have to make up for it in my sleep.
As far as the mindscape is concerned, it is real. For those of you who think infinity is not real consider this statement:

THIS SENTENCE IS FALSE

or something else to consider:

A king offers a pot of gold to the one in the land who can tell the biggest lie. Hundreds of lying con men and simple commoners turn out to achieve the post of gold and tell the biggest whoppers they can. The king was about to call it all off when a man comes up and says:

YOU WILL GIVE ME A POT OF GOLD

Think about that for a while. I’m convinced its not the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning.

Or are we, and all humanity, and all the universe all taking a haphazard little stroll on Escher’s famous staircase?

Why not begin the Paranormal tendency blog with a post about my favorite pastime Ghost Hunting. OK maybe its not my absolute favorite pastime but I try to get out there every once in a while. The hunting would always begin with some form of information. Somebody would read an article or see something on TV or just generally know some tidbit of info about a place thats supposedly haunted in some way. Usually we’d go on some hunch that an urban legend might be correct, or just to check out some haunted place for ourselves.

Cameras And Spotlights

Being simple hobbyists we wouldn’t have the best equipment but we’d always bring cameras, video recorders and flashlights to make sure we document and capture our adventure. Not to mention in case we actually do see some strange specter, it would certainly pay to have a camera for a snapshot. We’d always get the film developed and look very closely for any sign of a ghost or apparition. Sometimes the shot would be flooded with “orbs.” Specks of moisture, or supernatural occurrences?

The best piece of equipment we had had to be I think Steve’s 2 million candle spotlight. Very handy in the woods of Pennsylvania on some spooky dark night. Even handier at shining in the eyes of any would-be chaser gaining on us on the road (this really happened once or twice). We’ve also had a one million candle spotlight which could be plugged into the car for use.

(Un)expected visitors

As always our main goal is to catch some paranormal activity in motion. This would usually be to actually witness a ghost but could also be to see a strange supernatural activity such as a colored fog cloud. Many times we’d set out to find something specific like a lady in white on a specific piece of country road or the Jersey Devil.

Being ghost hunters, amateur or not, you must have some kind of backbone. What you do is set out to see these ghosts and when you actually do you can’t run and hide. Being human, though, the first instinct is to get out of Dodge the first sign of distress. While we have yet to run into a spirit per se, some strange things have happened.

Phenomena

It is not uncommon for us to get out a fully charged digital camera and to be surprised with an unexplained full battery loss. Could this be the handy work of ghosts? I can’t explain it. When we go to urban legend type places such as “gravity hill” its difficult to deny what your own senses are experiencing. When you feel the car go up a hill while in neutral, you have little to doubt but to believe in it.

Some ghost hunting excursions have been:

  • Gravity Hill
  • Van Sant Covered Bridge, Bucks County, PA
  • Bristol Cemetery, Bristol, PA
  • The Satanic Church, Beaver Valley, PA
  • An abandoned slaughterhouse, Glenn Mills, PA
  • Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia, PA
  • Fort Mifflin, Philadelphia, PA
  • Abandoned buildings

More adventures await us in the near future, as there is much to learn. I hope this blog can entertain and educate people on the fun and excitement that is searching for other worldly spirits and phenomena. I intend to make the story telling as fun as possible as well, and look forward to hearing from you about your own ghostly adventures.

Until then, happy hunting!

In this blog I will document the abnormal, seek the unexplainable, and tell tales of woe from ghost stories to urban legends. If it is not normal I will write about it. The odd and bizarre are welcome here. The macabre and the insane are at home on these pages. We will travel deep into the abyss of strange minds and psychology until it makes your head spin. So grab somebody close by and be prepared to be spooked by the unknown and unreal.

Welcome to Paranormal Tendency.
